The History

The Augusta Youth Center was founded by Patricia “Pat” Jones in 1984 and was originally

located in a two-bedroom apartment in the Sunset Homes community of the Augusta

Housing Authority.  After  numerous moves throughout the years necessitated by growing

enrollment and programs the center moved into the 602 3rd Street location in 1999. That

building was renovated by a Florida based development Company, which was in the process

of restoring other building in the community. That facility included a computer lab, expand -

ed classroom space, a conference room and a secured playground. In 2003, the Augusta

Youth Center moved into a its current facility the former Fire Station #1 on Watkins Street

was replaced by a new station on Broad street.
