The History

The Augusta Youth Center was

founded by Patricia “Pat” Jones in

1984 and was originally located

in a two-bedroom apartment in the

Sunset Homes community of the

Augusta Housing Authority.  After

numerous moves throughout the

years necessitated by growing

enrollment and programs the center

moved into the 602 3rd Street

location in 1999. That building was

renovated by a Florida based

development Company, which was in

the process of restoring other

building in the community. That

facility included a computer lab,

expanded classroom space, a

conference room and a secured

playground. In 2003, the Augusta

Youth Center moved into a its

current facility once again when the

former Fire Station #1 on Watkins

Street was replaced by a new

station on Broad street.
